ABSTRACT: The installation of vast quantities of additional new sensing and communication equipment, in conjunction with building the computing infrastructure to store and manage data gathered by this equipment, has been the first step in the creation of what is often referred to as the Smart Grid.  With this enormous investment in equipment, an ongoing challenge is how best to utilize, and ultimately present to the human user, the information that can be derived from this data.  This presentation covers some of the new techniques for dealing with such time-varying data, which in operations might come from measurement systems such as SCADA or PMUs, while in a study context it might be generated by a time-domain simulation such as transient stability.  Results will be shown for several example large-scale electric grids.

 

报告人简介:Thomas J. Overbye is a TEES Distinguished Research Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University (TAMU). Prior to joining TAMU in January 2017 he was the Fox Family Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He received his BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was employed with Madison Gas and Electric Company from 1983 to 1991. Dr. Overbye is the original developer of PowerWorld Simulator and a co-founder of PowerWorld Corporation. He is also the recipient of the Alexander Schwarzkopf Prize for Technological Innovation, a University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Engineering Distinguished Achievement Award, the IEEE Power and Energy Society Outstanding Power Engineering Educator Award and is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering.
